Wind Estate is one of Denmark’s leading energy companies specializing in the sale of environmentally friendly electricity. The company currently owns a portfolio of almost 400 wind turbines located mainly in Denmark.

Wind Estate is an established Danish company in continual development, built up out of the revolution of the wind industry in the early 1990s with a strategy to continue to expand the company’s capacity through the development, financing, construction, and operation of new wind turbine projects in the UK and Denmark.

Wind Estate (UK) was established in 2016 with a focus on the development of onshore wind projects across the UK. The main office is in Edinburgh. The company has a portfolio of 1GW under development.

 

Job Summary

Having developed a sizeable development portfolio in Scotland, Wind Estate are looking to expand the team further through hiring a Project Developer. The chosen candidate will play a key role in facilitating further growth and delivering projects within the secured portfolio.

As a Project Developer, you will be responsible for the delivery of new wind projects across Scotland from initial identification and inception to the completion of financial close. You will also be working with the team to manage the existing portfolio of sites, taking the management responsibilities for the development phase of the projects. We are looking for an outgoing, persistent and highly motivated individual for a new position at our office in Edinburgh. For the right candidate, this is great opportunity to work in a growing organisation with great prospects in an exciting industry.

Reporting to the Head of Development, you will be trained on the company’s operating procedures and in use of relevant software and assessing and reporting methods. You will have a variety of tasks in the office as well as being out in the field negotiating agreements and building relationships, whilst representing the company.

Some experience within the industry would be an advantage, including strong knowledge of renewable energy systems and an understanding of the planning system.

 

Responsibilities
  • Identification of new site opportunities and optimisation of existing developments.
  • Detailed wind farm site design and analysis.
  • Assessing wind resources and energy yield calculations, using specialist software.
  • Liaising with external stakeholders (e.g. planning authorities, community relations, statutory consultees, landowners, grid network operators)
  • Preparing reports with planning, technical and commercial input on development opportunities.
  • Support the team on commercial negotiations with landowners/agents.
  • Support the process of securing new opportunities from first approach to option/lease agreements.
  • Working with the Head of Development (UK) to deliver projects through to planning consent.
  • Participating in any community and political engagement exercises.
  • Preparing project risk registers and delivery programmes.
  • Manging the project risk throughout the development phase.
  • Reporting and managing a portfolio of projects at one time.

 

Skills and Experience
  • You have graduated with a relevant degree, with some years of experience within project development or the wind industry.
  • Have a good understanding of renewable energy systems and electricity generation.
  • You keep up to date with, and participate within, the renewable energy sector.
  • Knowledge of taking a renewable energy site from identification to planning consent.
  • Have a good understanding of development constraints and how to optimize opportunities.
  • Some experience in contract and commercial negotiation.
  • Experience in preparing project production and financial calculations.
  • You have an analytical, pragmatic and structured approach to projects.
  • You are good at putting yourself in the place of others, are solution-oriented and understand the interaction between the different interests.
  • Are highly personable and able to build good rapport with people quickly.
  • You are good in IT with experience in Microsoft office.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently, as well as within a team.
  • Can find solutions to manage project risk and are able to problem solve under pressure.
